EnglishYokohama Rubber to supply sustainable tires for Pikes Peak International Hill Climb
The US subsidiary of Yokohama Rubber, the Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC), is to supply 18 cars with tires made from sustainable materials for the 100th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, USA, on June 26, 2022.
Produced using a high number of recyclable materials, the tires supplied for the event will be Yokohama Advan A052s, which now utilize a biomass-derived butadiene rubber in the sidewall instead of a petroleum-derived butadiene rubber. The tires will be fitted to the Electric Performance/NRS 2022 Tesla Model S Plaid, which is to be driven by Blake Fuller in the Exhibition Division.
Through this agreement, Yokohama hopes to learn more about how the tires perform in hill-climb conditions, in addition to accelerating the development of its tire technologies to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
YTC is also supplying tires to several other teams and drivers including Exhibition Division champion Randy Pobst’s 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid, and 2020 King of the Mountain Clint Vahsholtz’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 running in the Pikes Peak Open Division.
First held in 1916, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb starts at an elevation of 2,862m and covers approximately 20km before finishing at an altitude of 4,300m.
